Adam Taylor Shoots Fisher & Paykel Campaign for Clemenger BBDO

January 26, 2012

Glasshouse Assignment photographer Adam Taylor has collaborated with Clemenger BBDO to create Fisher & Paykel’s new campaign. The Art Director was Katrina Jarrett and the Writer was Nikola Spadina. The campaign is all about friends sharing a wonderful dinner together and celebrating each others company.

Adam Taylor - Fisher & Paykel
Adam Taylor brought his amazing vision, technical prowess and gorgeous lighting to the campaign, creating two beautiful images for the luxury home and kitchen appliance company. Adam used the Canon 24mm tse II to eliminate the distortion from the high camera angle in “Desire” and a little for “Joy” as well.

Adam Taylor - Fisher & Paykel
In Adam’s words: “I directed the talent through the space using slow shutter speeds to capture their “ghostings” as they acted out various scenarios. It was like being a painter and making brushstrokes or “ghostings” with the talent’s movements and expressions through the kitchen and dining space.”

July 2011 – News

July 28, 2011

July 2011 | NEW WORK

We thought you might like to take a break from those emails (or for the lucky ones, that beach chair) and see some of the work our photographers have shot this last month. We promise, it won’t take too long – then you can be back to the sand, backyards and roof decks to relax. From great summer dishes to coveted beach homes, we’ve got something for everyone.

Kang Kim - Bon Appetit

Kang Kim has us tempted to sneak out of work and fire up the grill with these beautiful shots of various marinades. Kang shot four of the Lee Brothers recipes for the July issue of Bon  Appetit. Inspired by global flavors, the marinated dishes are a perfect match for Kang’s unique aesthetic. Check out some more of Kang’s food work here.

Spencer Jones - Georgia Pacific

Spencer Jones has taken an assignment from Georgia Pacific to shoot their new line of paper towel products and created unexpectedly beautiful, abstract works of art. With precise lighting and careful styling, the images take the product to a new level. We can’t wait to see more of this work.

Ryan Schude

Ryan Schude has recently returned from the latest Phoot Camp in Marfa, Texas. We’re in love with Ryan’s portrait of fellow photographer, Paul Octavious, taken at White Sands, New Mexico. Ryan also captured the beautiful Isabelle Albuquerque of Hecuba during filming for Keith Musil‘s video “Holograms”. Ryan brings his sense of wonder to each image.

Evan Kafka

Evan Kafka has once again created hysterical, emotive images of babies for a recent editorial client. The concept behind the shoot had to do with research showing that there may be a genetic predisposition to crime. Not only was there fabulous talent, but Evan was able to capture those fantastic expressions that keep us laughing. See more of his baby images here.

Trevor Dixon - Philadelphia Magazine

Trevor Dixon shot the beach home of interior designer and architect, Joanne Hudson, for the July issue of Philadelphia Magazine. His crisp and clean shots show the beauty of the house while also revealing the serenity that lies within the home. The ten page spread gave us a glimpse into the beautiful summer life of Hudson and had us daydreaming for a place of our own.

Adam Taylor

Adam Taylor‘s intimate series Flesh and Blood simultaneously shows us the wide-eyed amazement of childhood and the true beauty of the natural world. This is one of our favorite images from the series, a snippet of freedom, relaxation and marvel seen from a child’s point of view. Check out the rest of the series here.

Ryan Pfluger

Ryan Pfluger‘s shot of Bob Mould for New York Magazine gave us an intimate glimpse into the personality of an influential musician and author. Bob Mould, of Husker Du fame, sat with Pfluger in a portrait session in Washington, DC where he opened up and allowed for a great synergy between subject and photographer. Ryan also shot journalist Jose Antonio Vargas for a gripping New York Times Magazine essay where Vargas announces that he is an undocumented immigrant. The article is a fantastic read and a moving call for action.

Adam Taylor’s Pampero Rum Outtakes

May 5, 2011

As promised, here are some of the amazing outtakes from Adam Taylor‘s recent Pampero Rum campaign for Leo Burnett Sydney. The final results are phenomenal – I hope you enjoy Adam’s description of the shoot and some of our favorite outtakes:

Adam Taylor Pampero Rum Outtake

The first stage was searching for thick rainforest scenarios  and then shooting a wide selection of foregrounds and backgrounds that would lend themselves to the placement of the glass with innocent animal and tie in thematically with the evil animal that we would place above them. For example the snake scene has twisting vines curving snakelike in and around the glass, the spider has thin strands of tree vine dropping weblike in and around the glass, while the bat has those angular wing like branches above.

Adam Taylor Pampero Rum Outtake

Then into the studio where we set the lighting to match the soft light of the rainforest canopy and worked closely with expert animal handlers to capture a large selection of angles, shapes and expressions. The bats were difficult to work with and its worth noting that the handlers raise and care for these animals and would never make the animals do anything that they think would be harmful to them. Although the bat handler did get a few “nips” from those sharp little teeth from a bat who would have rather been sleeping! We also photographed a selection of glasses and ice separately.

We then sat with the art director Sharon Edmonston from Leo Burnett Sydney and the retouching artists Toby & Pete and made our component selections and did rough mockups for each execution. At this stage we were getting excited for even our rough mocks were looking great! Myself and Sharon then worked closely with Toby & Pete in the post stage directing and collaborating for what we think is a killer result for a wicked concept.

- Adam Taylor

Hope you enjoyed a glimpse behind the scenes at the amazing animals and crew that made this shoot so fantastic!

Adam Taylor for Pampero Rum

May 3, 2011

These images are simply amazing. Nothing more to it. Adam Taylor shot the latest Pampero Rum campaign for Leo Burnett Sydney – the images illustrate Pampero Rum’s “A perfect blend of good and evil” motto. Adam shot all elements of the image, I’ll post some outtakes from the set soon! I’m still in awe:

Adam Taylor for WWF Earth Hour

April 18, 2011

Adam Taylor worked with Leo Burnett Sydney on this compelling campaign to promote energy conservation and earth appreciation. The Earth Hour campaign is inspiring and moving – a tribute and motivation for people going the extra mile to conserve energy in the community. We can all make a difference – riding bikes to work, volunteering in a community garden, etc. – these ideas are beautifully represented in Adam’s work below.

Adam Taylor – PDN Photo Annual 2011 Finalist

April 4, 2011

We are proud to announce that Adam Taylor has been selected as a finalist in PDN‘s Photo Annual 2011 for his “Street Kids” work. Adam has been working on Street Kids, an ongoing project documenting youth living on the periphery, for almost two years now. As Adam explains, he is “attracted to the subject matter, youth on the outskirts, outsiders, existing at the prime of their lives at an extreme place of upheaval, uncertainty, heartache and dysfunction”. His images strike a chord, they show us raw emotion, adolescence, grit – they are a window into lives that you may pass everyday on the street but are removed from.

Adam Taylor - Street Kids NY

“I wanted to run with them – be a friend – to go inside this subculture and tap into their wildness and rebellion. I wanted to listen to their stories and try to make images from a place of raw feeling and sensitivity.”

Adam Taylor - Street Kids Sydney

Adam Taylor - Street Kids Sydney

Adam Taylor - Street Kids NY
“At times I couldn’t show their identities – at times they wouldn’t let me photograph.”

Adam Taylor - Street Kids Sydney

Adam Taylor - Street Kids Sydney
“You will notice that most of the time I am trying to get as close as possible to who I am photographing. It’s as if I’m wanting to imprint the texture of their skin on the photograph – to get inside their head and express something from this place that is really just a few steps off the beaten track. These young people are doing the best they can, trying to figure it out and escape from their pasts, their upbringings. In even the most hardened of these characters there is a place of light and beauty – you just gotta dig for it and spend some time with them.”

Adam Taylor - Street Kids Sydney

Adam Taylor - Street Kids Sydney

Adam Taylor - Street Kids Sydney

“Sometimes we all lose track of the pain that got us from darkness into light – we fall down and it’s fuckin hard to get up and find the light. This is an exploration of that journey – with grace.” Adam is running with them, he is gaining their trust to be one of them and photograph them, and for that we are lucky. We all experience the same emotions, the same feelings, make decisions, we are not that different from one another – Adam’s images allow us to empathize with a subculture that mostly goes ignored because of their appearance or choices. His images allow us to connect on a raw emotional level with these kids – a level which most would not have reached otherwise.

Adam Taylor Joins Glasshouse Assignment

March 9, 2011

Glasshouse Assignment is excited to announce the newest addition to our roster, Adam Taylor. Splitting his time between Australia and New York, Adam is frequently called on to bring a sense of humor and unique insight to ad campaigns. His vivid storytelling sense and gorgeous imagery come together as a unique vision–one that makes you take a second look. His wonderful personality and joy in the work he does comes across in each and every one of his images. Here are some of the stories behind the work…

- Jai-Lee Egna, Glasshouse Assignment

Adam Taylor's Olympus Campaign - Echidna

Adam teamed up with JWT Sydney to create the Cannes award winning Olympus campaign which you may be familiar with. Working closely with the creatives at JWT, Adam was able to lend his creative insights to bring this campaign to the next level. The team worked closely with animal wranglers at a zoo to achieve the correct positioning and shape of each animal. Adam shot the talent and locations separately and all of these components were combined in post. This shoot was a lot of work and a lot of fun and you can definitely see that from the images. As Adam says, “I love the process of collaborating with other talented people–it always leads to something more than the sum of its parts… a surprise… a new discovery.”

Adam Taylor's Olympus Campaign - Koala

New Frontiers is a prime example of Adam’s unique sensibility and creative problem solving skills. Yaffa Publishing and Adnews Magazine approached Adam to conceive a concept and shoot a photo feature for their hardcover coffee table 2010 annual, the theme being “New Frontiers.” Adam’s interpretation of this theme was the act of smashing through the status quo, the drive that creatives have to break out of the  box and uniquely and confidently speed into new territory. In Adam’s words: “I jumped at the offer and took this as a great opportunity to blow things up. Hence the smashing light bulbs idea was born.” [continued below]

Adam Taylor's New Frontiers - Adnews

“The vision was for a stillness and strength to the portraits, juxtaposed with the dynamics and force of the exploding glass swirling and surrounding the faces, which remain unflinching, almost meditative. Technically, it was exciting to come up with a solution to capturing that moment–at the instant that the light bulb explodes, with barely any lead time to fully prepare. If you look closely at the behind the scenes video you will see that we don’t have a hi-tech pistol connected to sound trigger setups to explode and capture the light bulbs. You may have secretly fashioned one of the devices that we used as a teenager…” A great collaboration in post with Toby & Pete, brilliant retouchers, truly helped bring this vision to life. Check out the behind-the-scenes video here.

Adam Taylor's New Frontiers - Adnews

The final New Frontiers images speak for themselves. They succeed in showing the confidence, the excitement and the drive that certain people possess to create new and unique ideas and bring those discoveries into the world. Adam was the perfect fit for this job. It’s amazing to see not only his thought process, but his solutions and technological process to get these ideas across. For all of these reasons and more, it is our pleasure to have Adam Taylor join the Glasshouse family. I’m sure 2011 will bring exciting new possibilities and work. Stay tuned.

New Work for 2011

February 21, 2011

Happy 2011! It’s hard to believe that two months have passed since I started at Glasshouse – it’s been quite a busy beginning to the new year! I’m thoroughly enjoying being part of the Glasshouse family and I’m looking forward to the coming year. Let’s get right to it, here’s some of our photographers’ new work!

Ryan Schude’s awesome image of Annie Leung, professional Guitar Hero player, was taken for the Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer’s Edition.

Ryan Pfluger’s portraits are always intimate and telling. The image on the left is of indie musician, Glasser, and was recently featured in Spin Magazine.

Trevor Dixon was chosen to shoot Philadelphia Magazine‘s 2011 “Best Restaurants” Issue, and the two images you see here are a result of that shoot. Be sure to check out more of his gorgeous food images here.

Spencer Jones has been working on a personal project, using his background as a still-life photographer to capture the formal beauty and grace of Joffrey Ballet School dancer, Alexander Mays.

Evan Kafka recently photographed John Legend for American Way Magazine. Legend is quickly becoming a favorite subject for Glasshouse photographers.

In addition to all of this new work from our current photographers, it is our great pleasure to announce the addition of another outstanding talent to our roster. Adam Taylor splits his time between living in Australia and New York, and has a very creative way of telling stories through his images. There will be a full post soon to formally announce him and show his work, but I couldn’t contain my excitement! Adam’s work and personality will surely complement our talent and bring a new dimension to Glasshouse. Here is just one of the fantastic images he created for an Olympus campaign. Please check out his work on the Glasshouse site here.
