Avrett Free Ginsberg & Purina Has Christina Gandolfo Catting Around.

No two cats are just alike and thanks to Purina’s Party Mix there’s a treat and flavor for every personality. This fun shoot for Averett Free Ginsberg and the Purina’s Party Mix campaign focused on three personality types: The Boss, The Joker and The Ninja Warrior. The “Boss Cat,” is a proud Orange Tabby with paws atop his favorite treats; the “Wacko Cat,” starring a hilarious Tuxedo cat clowning in an upside-down pose; and the “Ninja Cat,” an exotic Egyptian Mau competing for the Party Mix prize.

Christina, who shares a home with her own unique team of four cats, was in her element working with these awesomely talented felines!

Rotational Movement

By Clint Carter

From Boston commuters to Miami cruisers, Brooklyn cobblestones to LA trails, cycling scenes are microcosms of their communities.

Fewer than 200 years ago, the bicycle was considered revolutionary. With two wheels, a simple drivetrain, and the occasional downhill boost from gravity, riders from coast to coast could reach speeds unattainable on foot. Early frames were made from wood, but the bicycle rapidly evolved — upgrading to iron and steel, and later, aluminum, titanium, and carbon fiber— elevating with every iteration.

Today, America’s bike engineers deploy an arsenal of frame dimensions, gear ratios, and braking technologies to adapt these machines to their native terrains — be it the concrete jungle, rugged hillsides transected by trails, or warped, wooden boardwalks. And this is all done with intricate intent, designed with an eye for beauty as much as for performance.

Conceived and often manufactured in top markets around the country, the models and cycling accessories featured on the following pages represent just that: the intersection of form and function. Celebrating the aesthetic of their respective localities and the distinct topography for which they were produced, these bikes — much like the Compass agents who offer their personal cycling insights alongside — adeptly navigate their way through their cities. Admire their machined elegance and then — take off .

“Evidence of a bike renaissance, Brooklyn’s influx of cycling lanes makes travel between apartment showings and to appointments a literal breeze. For a whirlwind ride, first traverse the Brooklyn Bridge to encounter tree-lined brownstones as far as the eye can see. Then make your way to the verdant Prospect Park, where every sense of city life is left behind.”

“I’ve fully urbanized my 1998 Cannondale 400 for Manhattan’s streets: White Brothers carbon forks, Shimano disc brakes, Panaracer Pasela tires, and a carbon crankshaft. For an otherworldly experience, ride on Saturdays in August, when select Manhattan byways are closed, allowing you to coast up a trafficless Park Avenue, all the way from Union Square Park to Grand Central Terminal.”

“Miami’s idyllic weather and gorgeous scenery make it a cyclist’s paradise. From Key Biscayne’s Rickenbacker Trail to Coconut Grove’s historic Peacock Park, the city presents limitless routes for locals and visitors alike.”

Broadway’s Chilina Kennedy Debuts ‘Prisoner’ Music Video

Screen Shot 2016-01-23 at 4.53.52 PM

Chilina Kennedy takes a walk through New York City’s Riverside Park for a scene in her new “Prisoner” music video, premiering exclusively on JustJared.com.

The Broadway star is coming off a major performance at the Kennedy Center Honors last month, where she performed for Carole King as the singer herself. Chilina currently plays the legendary entertainer in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and she MC’d the tribute, even getting to introduce Aretha Franklin to the stage. (FYI…Beautiful is celebrating two years on Broadway today!)

“‘Prisoner’ means something different to everyone who listens to it,” Chilina told JustJared.com in a statement. “The song is about falling in love with the wrong person and being stuck in a continual pattern of always making the same choices – ultimately being a prisoner of our uncontrollable emotions. I was inspired by Bravo’s Lost In Motion and had a vision of marrying dance with the story of a woman’s struggle to choose between two men. Choreographer Marc Kimelman had a unique approach to telling the story and so we collaborated with Zachary Maxwell Stertz / Glasshouse Assignment and together brought ‘Prisoner’ to life on camera.”

The song “Prisoner” is featured on Chilina‘s debut album What You Find in a Bottle, available now!

Favorite subject to shoot? Favorite place? My favorite things to shoot are beautiful women in cozy oversized sweaters. My favorite place to shoot is outside, near water, while the leaves are changing in fall.

Top 3 tumblr accounts to stalk:

David Jones TumblrSuch lovely poetry! I don’t consider myself a poetry fan but I found this guy’s blog a few months ago and his work gives me warm fuzzies. He has a book called “Love and Space Dust.” I would like to just put his poems under my photos as the caption.

chillsnaps | I carry a point and shoot 35mm camera everywhere I go and I try to keep this updated. This is the style of photography that I started with nearly 15 years ago and I just love it! The snapshots are just so real and the film grain makes everything look magical!

Daniel Everett Patrick | My friend Daniel is the most romantic photographer I know, and shoots so much! He develops his own film in coffee and Hi-C, he is a “black swan” photographer and sometimes, photographically speaking,  I wish I was as carefree as him. He shoots first and asks questions later, I love it.

Where do you find inspiration? Dazed and ID magazine are always spot on, they get young photographers that somehow manage to reinvent portraiture/fashion with blissful ignorance.

I watched Kill Bill last night on TV. He (Quentin Tarantino) gets it! The color, the lighting, the composition… I was very inspired. Uma Thurman is so hot in that movie…..

Screen Shot 2015-11-05 at 9.54.14 AM

Most treasured photo you’ve ever taken and why? I have a polaroid of my parents that I took in on a large format camera. They have a really calm and supportive body language that definitely shows through the photo, gets me every time. It’s been pinned to my wall, real simple, for the last 10 years.

We dig your post-shoot “team shots”…how did those start? The movie poster for The Breakfast Club is the archetypal group shot if you ask me.

Screen Shot 2015-11-05 at 9.55.00 AM

I work with so many talented and creative people and it’s easy to remember who you have worked with on what by having a photo. In school, my idea of being a photographer was a dude with a camera “snapping pics.” In reality, with set stylists, hair, make-up, art direction, assistants, techs, and models, I am just a small part of a huge production. I think is cool to show the whole team!

On being photogenic: nature or nurture? You just have to own your look and not think about it too much once a camera is pointed at you. Don’t make a face that you wouldn’t make IRL (In Real Life). Big smiles are not necessary!

Screen Shot 2015-11-05 at 9.55.41 AM

Go-to pose when you are being photographed?

If I’m sitting in a chair, I put my elbows on my knees and lean forward like I’m deep in an interesting conversation.

If I’m sitting in the floor, I recline on my elbow and bend one knee, its a very leisurely look that works well every time!

I have terrible posture, so when I’m standing for a picture I just try to stand up straight. I don’t think about it, but I hold my hands in front of me. I look like I’m on the defense team for a soccer free kick. Its not a good look, I don’t recommend!

George Clooney always tenses his lower eye lid for photos, a very serious look. I go for that sometimes too.

Who printed it?
Linco Printing in Queens, NY

Who designed it?
Michael Freimuth, Creative Director and Partner at Franklyn did the design work.  We wanted to go big with the images and keep everything else minimal.  For this particular piece, the newsprint and the brown grocery bag paper envelope worked perfectly with the imagery.

Who edited the images?
The images originally came from a story I shot that ran in Men’s Health: so the edit credit really should go to Don Kinsella the Deputy Director of Photography over there. Great guy and a pleasure to work with!

How many did you make?
1000

How many times a year do you send out promos?
Generally speaking four times a year. I try to hit seasonal themes or send out a series of teasers on one subject. The images came about from a story was called Raise your Steaks in Men’s Health – basically about buying potion of a cow.  The meat shot represented everything you get from 1/8th of a cow.  First we photographed a Scottish Highlands cow in Rural Pennsylvania, named Raquel.  She was the farms show cow, winner of many a blue ribbon.  The farmer sent everyone in my crew home with some of the best beef I’ve ever had. It was a pretty amazing juxtaposition the to then photograph the meat still life.  We did the corresponding recipe shots in studio the next day.  Prop styling by Thom Driver and food styling by Jamie Kim.
